MENU THE ARTS SOCIETY LIMPSFIELD

The aim of our Society’s Young Arts activities is to inspire children to appreciate and take part in producing art in all its forms; to experience our arts heritage by visiting museums and art galleries in order to expand their knowledge.

In order to nurture the children’s potential and develop their artistic skill, we have been organising a series of events in local schools. In particular, Gifted and Talented Children who have an ability significantly above the norm for their age or find it easy to do some things very well.

In May, 30 pupils from four local schools (St Mary’s, Holland, St Stephens and Godstone Primary School) were taught figure drawing and painting with London artist Benjamin Senior.   A second session gave the children the opportunity to focus on landscapes.

It is also important to ‘Teach Teachers’ so on two separate sessions Benjamin Senior worked with 30 teachers from the same four schools to focus on developing teaching practices for drawing portraits and still life. They found this a hugely beneficial training opportunity.

Three art competitions, sponsored by our Arts Society, at Limpsfield CE Infants, St Mary’s and Holland Schools gave the pupils the opportunity to draw and paint. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience and showed how well they had progressed.

This is all thanks to the skills, imagination and commitment of our Young Arts volunteer, Mrs Irene Elsey.  We look forward to seeing more art by our budding ‘David Hockneys'!

We also made a donation to Holland School to purchase paints and painting equipment to enable them to continue the good work.
